Mission Statement

Montessori Corner at Princeton Meadows strives for educational excellence. Our mission is to provide for each of its students a well-rounded, individualized educational and developmental experience, based on Montessori principles, that nurture a love of learning.

We are a non-profit school with over 400 students between the ages of 18 months and 12 years old. All of our classes are staffed by a qualified Montessori teacher. This provides a familiar setting which encourages long-term friendships.

"As I grow...I know I can do it myself!"

Our Action Concept

We are a non-profit school dedicated to bringing an authentic Montessori education to the children of our community, which will allow them to self-discover the skills to prepare them for life.

Beginnings

Our school began as a concept of the founders, Eileen and Al Spiewak, on February 14, 1994. They brought together people they knew and shared their vision, and many enthusiastically agreed to be our first teachers and staff. Knowing the West Windsor-Plainsboro school district where they raised their own children, the Spiewaks looked for a suitable location, and decided on our Princeton Meadows site. The building needed to be converted from office space to a school. Mrs. Spiewak worked full time to find children to enroll, while closely supervising the construction. We opened our doors in September 1994 with 70 students. By December, we expanded into additional space in the same building.

The founders became the present Head of Schools and President and they also serve as trustees on the Board of this non-profit school. Mrs. Spiewak was a head teacher as well as the Director the first year, which was a year of rapid growth. In June of 1995 we graduated our first 8 students.

The school at Princeton Meadows has become one of the larger Montessori schools in the United States, with over 250 students.  The classrooms at this campus contain our Early Childhood classes (for children 2.5 to 5 yrs), and Primary classes (3 - 6 yrs).

On the first day of the new millennium, Montessori Corner started classes at its Country Day campus in Grovers Mill, with room for 100 students.  Here, in a specially designed environment, is our Sunflower House for Early Childhood (18 to 36 months).  In separate buildings we have Primary students (3 to 6 years) and our Elementary program.

In 2005, we opened our third school, Children's House of the Windsors, in West Windsor, with room for another 100 Early Childhood and Primary students.

We are proud of what our children have accomplished following the principles of learning set by Maria Montessori 100 years ago. Our intention is to be the educational resource of choice in our community.

Accreditation by AMS, MSA & CITA

From the time we opened, we have been affiliated with the American Montessori Society (AMS). In 1999 we became the youngest school Accredited by AMS, one of 40 (out of an estimated 5,000), and the first in Central/Southern New Jersey. This is a confirmation that we are presenting an authentic Montessori education to the children of our community. We have also been Accredited by the Middle States Association Commission on Elementary Schools, and by the Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation. Montessori Corner is the second Accredited Montessori school in the United States to have committed itself to the world class educational requirements demanded by these organizations.

Montessori Teacher Training Institute

Montessori Corner provides the staff and is the "model" site for the Montessori Teacher Training Institute of New Jersey.  MTTI/NJ is affiliated with the American Montessori Society and nationally accredited by MACTE. This teacher training program is part of the curriculum provided by Mercer County Community College. This course is unique in that you may start four times a year, finish the academic program in a single year during evenings and Saturdays without summer classes, and the tuition is reasonable.  The tuition is charged for each module, not the entire program in advance.
